Other highlights include Scottish dance music legend Jimmy Shand being added posthumously to the Hall of Fame, along with Jeannie Robertson and eight other performers.

The award - the Strathspey and Reel Society of the Year - will be included in the event at the Nevis Centre from December 1 to 3.

The awards - billed as part of the celebrations for Highland 2007 - will be hosted by Mary Ann Kennedy and Stuart Cassells.

This year, for the first time since its introduction, the awards will include other events throughout the weekend. As well as the award ceremony itself on the Saturday night, which includes The Hamish Henderson Award for services to traditional music, there will be live recordings of Robbie Shepherd's Take The Floor and a live broadcast of Reel Session for BBC Radio Scotland.

There will also be a series of workshops and sessions throughout the day on Sunday and also a Trad Music Awards Club running at the Alexandria Hotel, Fort William.

Live performances can also be expected from Peatbog Faeries, Julie Fowlis, Gordon Shand Dance Band, Junior Unusual Suspects, Feis Lochaber and Jim Reid.

Nominations for awards, ranging from community project of the year to composer of the year are invited from the public by post, email or via the website www.handsupforfrad.co.uk. The closing date is tomorrow (Friday).

For those wanting to attend the music awards, tickets are on sale by phone on 0131 208 3089 or www.handsupforfrad.co. uk
