WOW! The officials are at it again. A bronze guy with "sore feet" at the west end of our High Street to finish the end of West Highland Way.

Published:  25 February, 2010

THE stratagem to move the finishing point of the West Highland Way will result in hordes of heavily shod, weary walkers having to hobble an extra mile through Fort William High Street to complete the route officially.

Published:  18 February, 2010

ON Saturday, my husband and I travelled from Helensburgh to Mallaig on the "World's Best Train Journey". I now know why it is so named.

RE John Dempster's Christian Viewpoint in last week's paper (Lochaber News, w/e Feb 13), Mr Dempster "doubts that the indiscriminate, across the board judgement of which Pat Robertson speaks is consistent" with a loving god.

Published:  11 February, 2010

I'M sure I speak for many others when I declare that I am totally deflated by the "decision" to extend the Fort William end of the West Highland Way.

Published:  04 February, 2010

NEARLY three years ago, Scottish Water Solutions proposed an extension to the North Ballachulish sewage works, in response to an EU directive concerning the quality of shellfish waters, in this case at Loch Leven.

Published:  28 January, 2010

I REFER to my letter in the Lochaber News last November and to the letter from Simon Andrews in last week's paper (LN, week ending January 23).

Published:  28 January, 2010

I WRITE to express my concern at the proposal for the 17-night closure around Easter of the A82 southbound from Fort William (Lochaber News, week ending January 9).

Published:  21 January, 2010

I READ with interest on numerous occasions last year of plans to move the end of the West Highland Way. What a brilliant idea to boost shops at the west end of town!

Published:  14 January, 2010

THE closure of the Corran-Ardgour Ferry for at least four weeks, as proposed by Highland Council at a public meeting in Strontian last week, is completely unacceptable to the communities of Sunart, Acharacle, Ardnamurchan and Morvern.

Published:  14 January, 2010

AFTER reading about it in the Lochaber News (Double blow for Lochaber motorists, LN, week ending January 9), I attended the meeting at the Sunart Centre to hear about the plans to close the Corran Ferry for essential repairs.

Published:  30 December, 2009

ACCORDING to the media, December 19 was "panic Saturday" as far as shopping in the run-up to Christmas was concerned.

Published:  10 December, 2009

I WOULD like to begin by voicing my agreement with Mr Ian Chisholm's letter, but I would like to look at the waterfront project from the angle of the developers having the backing in place.

Published:  10 December, 2009

FOR what it's worth, my view is to leave the West Highland Way as it is (Lochaber News w/e November 21 and letters w/e November 28).

Published:  10 December, 2009

I READ with interest the comments by Councillor Murphy regarding the finish of the West Highland Way being moved to the West end of town (Lochaber News, w/e November 21).

Published:  03 December, 2009

THE observation that all tragedy ultimately ends in farce might have been made with this wretched waterfront development in mind.

Published:  03 December, 2009

IN the wake of Fort William FC's disappointing defeat at Strathspey Thistle on Saturday, I can only conclude that the progress of the club is now being hampered by one thing, the state of the pitch at Claggan Park.

Published:  26 November, 2009

I WRITE in response to your front page article (Lochaber News, November 5) reporting the recent flood which once again threatened our homes.

Published:  26 November, 2009

I WAS pleased to read in last week's Lochaber News (November 19) that Fort William is to receive £317,000 for improvements to the west end of the High Street.

Published:  05 November, 2009

JUST like the Lochaber News, ScotRail is committed to the communities it serves.

Published:  15 October, 2009

I RECENTLY attended a meeting in Kilmallie Hall, Corpach, to consider wind turbines on Druim Fada.

Published:  03 September, 2009

I FEEL the reasons for refusal put forward by objectors and councillors regarding the proposed wind farm at Druim Fada are unjustifiable and riddled with inaccuracies.

Published:  03 September, 2009

NEVIS Radio is now 15 years old and broadcasting to the people of Lochaber and beyond.

Published:  20 August, 2009

IF I wanted to build a factory or hotel on the Druim Fada ridge, I would be bombed out by the planning officer, yet because a group wants to build several whirring monstrosities there, he recommends it!

Published:  13 August, 2009

I READ with horror the proposal to erect four giant wind turbines near Corpach (Lochaber News, August 8).

Published:  13 August, 2009

I REFERENCE to your story 'Travellers in Camp Site Fury' (Lochaber News, August 8).

Published:  06 August, 2009

ON behalf of all concerned with Fort William Football Club, I would like to state my disappointment at the headline in last week's Lochaber News (week ending August 1).

Published:  16 July, 2009

I WAS interested by your recent article regarding the current lack of tennis courts in Fort William (Lochaber News, week ending July 4).

Published:  16 July, 2009

Items of interest or suggestions we would like to see in the development of Fort William's waterfront are:

Published:  25 June, 2009

I READ the very great report of the mountain bikes at Aonach Mor (Lochaber News, week ending June 20).

Published:  25 June, 2009

I AM  replying to Oliver Blomfield's letter (Lochaber News, week ending May 30) which I thought was a bit vindictive but for the moment I will let that go. Perhaps he should re-read my letter, if his is capable of comprehension.

Published:  25 June, 2009

On Saturday, May 16, we (four women from Canada) arrived in Fort William and expected to pick up our rental car.

Published:  18 June, 2009

My family were recently staying at Arisaig and visited Fort William to do some shopping. I was a bit disappointed in the recent state of the town, having been a regular visitor to the West Highlands for many years.

Published:  18 June, 2009

THE article in last week's paper (LN w/e June 13) describing the council's plans for funding improvements to sports facilities over the next three years, highlighted a clear bias in favour of shinty grounds in the Lochaber area.

Published:  18 June, 2009

THE combined population of Corpach, Banavie and Caol, of 7,000-plus, is greater than the population of Fort William. The houses and shops in Fort William came about when people first traded with the Old Fort.

Published:  04 June, 2009

I AM aware that articles have appeared in the local press concerning the proposal for four winds turbines on Druim Fada to the north of Corpach outside Fort William.

Published:  04 June, 2009

AT this moment in time I am reading your story 'Ugly and Depressing?' (LN, w/e May 30).

Published:  04 June, 2009

ON picking up the Lochaber News last week (LN, w/e May 30) you had me in kinks. There on the front page was a large photograph of Justin Ryan and an even bigger headline – 'UGLY AND DEPRESSING?'.

Published:  28 May, 2009

I WRITE in reply to the "Facts about Wind Farms" letter published in the Lochaber News (w/e May 16)

Published:  14 May, 2009

I NOTE with interest that wind turbines do not appear to be top of the popularity list in Lochaber. Visual impact, erosion and tourist alienation seem to be among the key points of objection.

Published:  14 May, 2009

IN August 2006 I wrote an article, "A case against wind farms in the Highlands", in Lochaber Life magazine, most of which has come true.

Published:  30 April, 2009

IN last week's Lochaber News, John Hutchison wrote of the scale of the four massive turbines that could be erected above Annat if a planning application recently submitted to Highland Council is successful.

Published:  30 April, 2009

ON finding out about the planning application by North British Windpower Limited for four wind turbines on the hill north-west of Annat Farm, Corpach, Fort William Community Council members contacted the Highland Council planning service and managed to obtain an extension to the response deadline to enable us to discuss the issue in full at our meeting last Tuesday.

Published:  23 April, 2009

RESIDENTS of Fort William, Claggan, Inverlochy, Caol, Corpach and Loch Eil-side, who presently enjoy the view along Loch Eil need to be aware of the current planning application by North British Windpower Ltd to erect four large 2.5MW wind turbines north of the A830 above Linnhe Caravan Park at Annat.

Published:  23 April, 2009

I WRITE to correct some factual inaccuracies in the letter from Mr O'Neil which appeared in the letters column of your paper last week concerning the refurbished Fort William library.

Published:  16 April, 2009

I VISITED our local Public Library in Fort William for the second time since it was refurbished.

OWNERS of the many holiday cottages in Lochaber can do their bit for our service men and women by offering a free week to those returning from duty abroad.

Published:  16 April, 2009

WE are doing a project on World War Two this term and I am looking for someone who might be willing to talk to the children about the impact of the war on the Highlands and how it affected this area in particular.

Published:  16 April, 2009

WITH reference to the news item last week (LN w/e April 11) that there is a proposal to hoist a Model T Ford on to the summit of Ben Nevis by helicopter, I have to register my support for the John Muir Trust's outright rejection of the idea.

Published:  05 March, 2009

I READ your article "Pay axe should fall on bosses" (Lochaber News w/e February 28) where Councillor Bill Clark voices his opinion that top council officials should face a pay squeeze and not those at the lower end of the scale under the job evaluation scheme.

Published:  05 March, 2009

MAY I through your column inform "old farmers" who were members of a Young Farmers Club in the Highland Area pre-1975 that we are organising a reunion for this year of the Homecoming.
