Should civil servants be allowed to use a voluntary severance scheme, as Stuart Black has?
Published:  11 April, 2008

No - It's claimed that Stuart Black merited his severance pay for 'taking a risk'. This redefines risk. If I were offered a six-figure sum to take redundancy, I wouldn't consider myself to be running any risk at all. That was two years of his final salary, and if a supposed high-flier couldn't find suitable employment within two years, there would have to be something seriously amiss with him. This whole episode is a disgraceful waste of public money that should never have been allowed to happen. Graham Barker

Has Fort William High Street been ruined?
Published:  07 April, 2008

Yes - The High Street needs businesses that support the local community. Although it is a touristic destination it would be nice to see some everyday businesses like a fishmonger, shoe repair and dry cleaners. It is such a shame that we have to travel out of the town for the most basic of needs. kimandy

Should the Gordon Square obelisk be removed?
Published:  04 February, 2008

Yes - Looks out of place. Too dominating. I'm a former resident of the Fort. Kenmarjie

Are Lochaber councillors acting disgracefully?
Published:  13 November, 2007

Yes - Name any councillors in Scotland who do not act disgracefully at one time or another. Most have either an agenda of self interest or are looking for an easy way of getting some money (West Lothian £20k basic + allowances). What do you think? J Yeardley

Should locals be given greater priority in housing allocation?
Published:  22 October, 2007

Yes - I used to live in the Lochaber area and found that it was very difficult for local people to get their foot on the housing ladder due to houses being bought by people who were not local but had money from previous house sales outwith the area. The only option for local youngsters is council or housing association housing and they should be given first chance if they wish to stay in the area. Cathy MacLennan, Manchester

What can be done to ease traffic congestion in Fort William?
Published:  31 August, 2007

More - The volume of traffic is having a detrimental effect on businesses and there are potential life-saving implications for our emergency services. There is also a detrimental effect on the tourist industry. Seoras

Are Lochaber pubs safe to drink in?
Published:  13 July, 2007

Yes - I think Lochaber pubs are safe to drink in compared to Manchester where I live now after spending 16 years in Lochaber enjoying quiet drinks. Here it's dangerous to walk home from the pub, there are shootings in the local pubs and I used to work in Moss Side - need I say more! Catherine MacLennan

Does Fort William need a "proper" bus station?
Published:  10 July, 2007

Yes - I left the Fort in 1989 long after the bus station closed but I often think about how it was such a warm place to meet friends before we departed on our separate ways. The current standing in the wind and rain just doesn't do it. Bring back the bus station. You never know, maybe I'll come home again! Robert Howat

Does Fort William need the waterfront development?
Published:  10 April, 2007

No - I don't have the whole story, but Fort William is beautiful without having to add more buildings to it. Jim and Jackie
