NAIRN County’s Highland League title challenge suffered a setback after the Wee County were held to a 1-1 draw at Formartine United.
Les Fridge’s side went ahead through Conor Gethins after 18 minutes, the prolific hitman connecting with a Dale Gillespie cross from the right.
Formartine started the second half brightly, but were nearly undone as Gethins broke free but his 12-yard shot was held by the home ‘keeper.
The hosts eventually equalised after 78 minutes, Kyle MacAuley taking advantage of slack Nairn defending to slot home and seal the point which moved them into 11th spot.
Nairn are now seven points behind league leaders Forres Mechanics, who beat Inverurie Locos 2-0 at Mosset Park, having played two games more.
Cove Rangers have a five point lead over Nairn, after easing past Turriff United 3-0.
Lossiemouth’s trip to Huntly ended in a fine 1-0 win for the visitors.
Buckie Thistle are up to fourth after beating Fort William 4-0, and Brora were unable to contain a
spirited Deveronvale side, the Banff outfit running out 6-3 winners.
Keith’s charge up the table continued as they saw off struggling Strathspey Thistle 6-0.
Clach’s game against Fraserburgh was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and Wick Academy were unable to host Rothes, after the pitch was deemed unplayable.
