Late goals so costly for Fort

FORT William’s weakened side conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes as they lost 5-0 at Turriff United in the Highland League on Saturday.

Michael Taylor opened the scoring on 15 minutes when he accepted a pass from Ryan Cowie before slotting the ball into the net.

The same players combined again on 36 minutes and Taylor claimed his second of the day when he finished the ball past Fort goalkeeper Stewart Gray.

Fort battled well and only a late collapse gave the scoreline the added gloss.

Gary Harris buried the ball past Gray to make it 3-0 then knocked home a cross from Donald Fraser for a fourth.

Jerry O’Driscoll then netted his 13th goal of the season with a terrific high shot from 18 yards to leave Fort floored.

Danny Conlon’s side welcome Nairn County to Claggan Park this weekend.

Elsewhere, Forres Mechanics were knocked off top spot as they went down 4-2 at Huntly, while Cove Rangers moved into first place following their 3-0 stroll at Rothes.

Champions Buckie Thistle moved ahead of Nairn into third place thanks to their 3-2 victory at Lossiemouth, although Les Fridge’s team have three games in hand.

Keith were 5-1 winners at home to Formartine United, while Wick Academy made the worthwhile trip to Fraserburgh as they ran out 3-1 winners.

The afternoon’s big winners were Inverurie Locos, who thrashed Brora Rangers 6-1, while Fort William’s weakened side conceded three goals in the last 10 minutes as they lost 5-0 at Turriff United.
