A LOCHABER taxi driver has been stripped of his operator’s licence following a joint operation by Northern Constabulary and Highland Council’s Trading Standards department to clamp down on licensing offences in the area.
During a day-long initiative last Wednesday, numerous taxi drivers were stopped and spoken to by the officers who highlighted the need for strict standards to be maintained at all times to ensure public safety.
The day resulted in several drivers being warned for minor faults with their vehicles.
One taxi driver had their operator’s licence removed due to the condition of one of the vehicles.
A police spokesman said: “Northern Constabulary and Trading Standards acknowledge that taxi operators and drivers provide an essential service to local communities, and remind them to ensure their vehicles are road legal at all times, to ensure public safety is maintained and encourage them to continue with their high standards and excellent service they provide.”
